Motherhood, Mental Health & Redefining Wellness | The Motion of Gratitude Podcsat

I recently had the honor of joining Shannon Missimer on her podcast, The Motion of Gratitude. Our conversation was honest, emotional, and one I hope every mom—or anyone who supports moms—gets the chance to hear.

We talked about something incredibly close to my heart: the mental health challenges of motherhood.

I opened up about my own postpartum experience—including the emotional toll of an unexpected C-section and the quiet, isolating struggles I faced in early motherhood. It’s what led me to specialize in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), and ultimately, to build Redefine Wellness.

In this episode, Shannon and I explore the real gaps in postpartum care and why so many moms feel unseen and unsupported. We also dive into what therapy can actually look like for mothers—beyond the buzzwords. I talk about what to expect in therapy, how we use CBT tools, and why it’s so important to set intentions based on how you want to feel, not just what you want to get done.

If you’ve ever felt like you were just trying to survive your days, if you’ve struggled to “bounce back” after birth, or if you’re simply curious about how therapy can support mothers in this season—you’re not alone. This conversation is for you.

We also mention a few of my favorite resources, including:

  • Postpartum Support International (PSI) – A directory for finding certified perinatal mental health professionals

  • Crap, I Have a Toddler by Jamie Glowacki – A refreshingly real look at parenting

  • Nine Steps to Wellness by Jane Honikman – A foundational framework I often use in sessions

  • Feeling Good podcast by Dr. David Burns – A helpful intro to Team CBT techniques

You can listen to the full episode of The Motion of Gratitude on Spotify or anywhere you get your podcasts. I hope it leaves you feeling seen, validated, and a little more supported.
